Tips for Decorating the Ranch-Style Home of Your Dreams

    By johncash | Interior, My Old House | 0 comment | 18 December, 2019 | 0

When putting together the decorating plan for your ranch-style house, remember to keep things simple. Working a ranch takes a great deal of time and energy, so your decor needs to be practical and simple if you want it to be on-theme. However, if the favorite thing about your home is all the ground around it, you can gain a lot of inspiration from the natural world.

    Colors

If the wooden trim in your home has never been painted, you have something to celebrate. For those lucky enough to have natural wooden floors, the party goes on and on. Remember that when you walk through a forest, every color goes with wood. Bring in greens to reflect summer’s leaves and blue to remind us of the sky. Keep curtains simple enough to let in plenty of natural light.

    Accents and Décor

One of the benefits of ranch living is that you have some space and privacy that those who dwell in the city may lack. Try to keep your home decorated in such a way that guests are invited to go with the flow. For example, don’t use rugs with contrasting colors or patterns from the existing floor and try to group furniture on them. When choosing a rug, keep in mind that the rug color needs to match the floor and goes along with the ranch theme. Your home should have a leisurely flow, not a series of islands in a sea of wood.

    Keep Things Rustic

One of the nicest things about a home in the country is that you can enjoy the age, time and workmanship of the home, your furnishings and the outbuildings. If something is showing some wear, celebrate it! If a piece of outdoor, such as a garden bench or potting table, needs a protective coating of paint, you can still distress it with some sandpaper to maintain a rustic look. Don’t forget to check out flea markets and yard sales in the area. Simple touches such as small milk vases, picked up for $1.00 or less, can display a willow branch or pretty sprig of forsythia in the spring.

Your ranch home can be a place to celebrate both a cozy living space and a tribute to the great outdoors. Of course, make sure to have blankets, throws and quilts available to cuddle under on a cold night. Your family and guests will appreciate this and the other touches you’ve used to create a welcoming home.
