After polishing the concrete countertops they are now ready to be finished. This takes a couple of steps One is to seal the concrete because concrete is porous and the second is to add a polishing wax which protects the surface.
The materials needed are:
This process takes a little bit to get the sealer to go on smooth and clean and not leave streaks. I ended up doing three different coats. To do a coat you follow the directions on the bottle to mix the sealer and then apply with a rag in circles. After this is done you remove the excess with the squeegee and let it dry.
Then when it is dry do another coat, make sure to cover the whole piece so that it all gets sealed.
To test if the concrete is completely sealed simply pour water on the concrete and check to see if there ends up being any dark spots, these are areas where the sealer hasn’t completely sealed yet. If this is the case you need to do another coat.
The next step is to add the wax polish on the concrete, this is done just like you would wax a car. Where you place it on in a circular motion and then remove the excess in a similar manner. This created a strong protective coating and will resist wear and tear.
Here is the installed countertops, what do you think?
