5 Ways to Put the ‘Home’ in Your Homestead

    By johncash | Homesteading | 0 comment | 8 September, 2018 | 0

When you are homesteading, it can sometimes feel like it’s not quite your own home. Even though you are living there, you might need some strategies to create a deeper connection with it. That way while you are working hard you can also enjoy the process and the lifestyle. So here are five ways to make your homestead feel like home:

Developing a Raw Area of Land

Perhaps you had an agreement to homestead a certain area of land. However, you might expand your horizons. Look at other areas that could use some love and care.  When it comes to homesteading, there is something great about the feeling of taking a piece of land and turning it into something amazing.

    Livestock

There is something special about having livestock and other animals living on the homestead with you. You can take care of them. In return, resources to trade with others and support your family, as well as love and friendship. Chickens, horses, cows, pigs, rabbits and other animals are all great ways to feel right at home.

    Fencing

Depending on what kind of homesteading your are doing, fencing can be a great option. The type of fencing that is right for you will depend on a number of factors. For instance, you need to look at what kind of animals and plant life you need to protect. A vinyl horse fence is great if you have horses, since it’s safer than conventional barbed wire.

    Better Equipment

Spending all day getting the crops and animals to behave the way you want them to can be difficult. It gets even more so when you add in trying to tame wild bushes and trees that might be near you. You will be able to relax more when you have machinery that does a lot of the hard work for you so you can focus on the more creative work.

    Ranch Hands

Hiring ranch hands is a great option. It helps you build a larger community, and ranch hands are invaluable for keeping up on chores like fence repair, taking care of livestock, and developing the land. And a delicious meal from the farm tastes even better when it’s shared.

Don’t feel like you don’t have any options if you have been at a crossroads. Use the five ways above and your homestead will feel more like home than ever before. Then, whether you are doing it for fun, family, or profit, it will be more than worth it in the end.
