4 Old West Attractions Perfect for Cowboy Enthusiasts

    By johncash | DIY | 0 comment | 28 May, 2019 | 0

Celebrate the legacy of the American Cowboy with a trip through some of the country’s most historic sites. With a variety of genuine Old West attractions scattered throughout the region, it is easy to learn about and engage with this important era in American history. Here are four Old West attractions that are perfect for cowboy enthusiasts looking to immerse themselves in this world.

    Buckhorn Exchange

Get a literal taste of the Old West with a meal at the Buckhorn Exchange. Located in Denver, this iconic institution was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1972. The historic restaurant first opened its doors in 1893 and has been serving up classic western dishes since. Enjoy some of the finest steaks in the region with all of the traditional sides. The Buckhorn Exchange also is home to over 100 guns and various taxidermy art, providing the perfect backdrop for your step back in time.

The National Cowgirl Museum and Hall of Fame

This Fort Worth gem proves that it was not just cowboys roaming the Old West. The 33,000 square-foot building boasts over 4,000 artifacts detailing the contribution that women had to the lore of the Wild, Wild West. This engaging museum honors over 750 women who shaped the Old West, including Sacajawea, Laura Ingalls Wilder, and Annie Oakley. It’s not too hard to get there either, with many options available.

    Colorado Springs Ghost Town Museum

Families will delight in all of the fun and interactive activities and exhibits at the Ghost Town Museum. This Colorado Springs museum brings the Wild West alive to its visitors. Located about 20 minutes southeast of the airport, this family-friendly attraction is less of a museum and more of an entire preserved town. Kids can take their hand at panning for gold, churning butter, and more. A shooting gallery, arcade, and the authentic preserved town round out the offering at this unique historical museum.

    Deadwood, South Dakota

This quintessential Old West town is bursting with history. As the home to Wild Bill Hickok and Calamity Jane, Deadwood has been restored to its original western roots. Visitors can check out a myriad of historic saloons, hotels, gambling halls, and more. A trip to Deadwood allows you to celebrate this iconic period of time.

This nation is rich in cowboy history. The only thing left to do is get out there and explore this lasting legacy as you step back into history.
